💛Willow Wednesday Women💛
Say hello to this week's lovely wonder woman, Lisa Swaine behind the amazing brand @bettyhulaskincare
1) How did Betty Hula come about?
I’m a graphic Designer, and I had been recommended to a start-up company to create a logo, packaging and marketing for a small skincare range. Unlike some of the products that I design for, I really liked this, so put a heck of lot of my spare time into the early days of Betty. Then, the original owners of the company decided to go there separate ways, so my partner and I decided to take a leap of faith and take it on ourselves. It has been a huge turning curve, a bit like being a parent, learning along the way. Betty is like our third child, and so far she seems to be heading in the right direction :)
2) As a kid, what did you want to be when you were older?
When I was young I wanted to be in the army, or in the police (I was a tom-boy). Then as I got to my teens it changed to wanting to do something arty.
3) Who is your inspiration?
Alot of people say this I know, but my parents. They both always worked for themselves, worked hard, and created 2 businesses. They taught me that if you work hard you CAN reap the rewards.
4) What would be your most amazing adventure to go on?
I’d love to get a camper van, and take a year off and just drift across France, with absolutely no plans - just see where the road took me. A bit a tropical Island in the middle of nowhere would be a nice pit stop too…. Though I don’t think you can reach many of those in a camper van!
5) What's you favourite song?
Rotterdam - Beautiful south.Â
6) Who would play you in a movie?
Going to have to duck out of that question. It will be about 25yrs since I last went to the pictures. And I never watch movies - ! must be odd I know!
7) What's the best thing about owning your own company?
There's 2 things. The first is the achievement and pride you feel when something good happens. I never felt that when I worked for a company. The 2nd is the fact that whilst I work far more hours than I did when I worked for someone, the fact that I can turn up in the office without make-up, in whatever feels comfy, and at my own hours is very ‘liberating.
